CASSETTE REVIEW: Peasants “Sawngs” (Inner Islands)

There are many different qualities that Peasants have on the cassette “Sawngs”, but on the whole they just across as ambient and instrumental.   Oh, there are some songs with vocals, but for the most part this is just spatial and without words.

Somewhere between The Cancer Conspiracy and Penfold, Peasants have a quiet sound that sometimes has a piano involved.   When the vocals come out, so does an acoustic guitar.   Overall though, the first side could be seen in many ways as well as just being FNL overall.

Side B begins like a journey to a tropical island.  It sounds to me like a slowed down version of Porno for Pyros, but I’m not sure how much sense that makes exactly.  This begins transitions into loops of crashing waves and just other ambient sounds before the guitar picks back up.

On the whole, this cassette is just soothing, relaxing and is the perfect soundtrack for a day at the beach… that is, if you don’t mind falling asleep in the sun.
